IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic test is mainly for assessing the abilities of listening, reading, writing and speaking ability of English language. Duration of the test is 3 hours. The modules listening and speaking are same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General. But, Reading and writing sections are different in each tests. The listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day with no breaks in between them. The speaking section is completed a week before or after the other tests. The total time is 2 hours and 45 minutes for remaining listening, reading and writing.


Reading test duration is 60 minutes. The reading section has 40 questions. It is designed to test the reading skills of the candidates. Reading section includes three long texts from the descriptive to analytical.  These text paragraphs are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. A variety of question types are used such as multiple choice questions, identifying information, identifying the writer’s views/ claims, matching information matching headings, matching features, matching sentence endings, sentence completion, summary completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion, diagram label completion and short-answer questions. Texts may contain non-verbal materials such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations. Each question is worth 1 mark. The academic reading marked by certified markers. All answer sheets are further analysed by Cambridge Assessment English. A Band Score conversion table is produced for each version of the Academic Reading test, which translates scores out of 40 into the IELTS 9-band scale.
