For general students, part 1 is letter writing. The second part is an essay related to a general topic. You can use 20 minutes for the part one session We have all appeared for examinations during our school and college days, and most of our examinations were written so writing an answer is not something that is alien to us. However, the challenge in the IELTS is using the correct vocabulary along with structuring your answer well.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Your neighbours have recently written to you to complain about the noise from your house flat.

Write a letter to your neighbours. In your letter

  • explain the reasons for the noise
  • apologize
  • describe what action you will take

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear …………,

Dear Mr. and Mrs. John,

I hope this letter finds you in sound health. I apologize for the noise from my house the last two days. I’ve just finished reading your letter which you sent to us yesterday. As I promised, I’m writing to apologize and assure you that it won’t happen again.

Recently my wife and I decided to repair a part of our house. Besides, we also planned to do some renovations in our kitchen, and we hired professionals for this purpose. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, but I also expect that the work will be finished this weekend. I admit that I should have informed you about it earlier.

A few tasks are pending and we will try our best to minimize the noise. I will instruct the workers not to continue their work after the evening. Once again, I am terribly sorry for the whole event.

Yours sincerely
